Applied Artificial Intelligence Engineer
About MedOne Systems
We are bringing to market the first new Health System electronic health record system (EHR) in decades and the first one ever born out of a medical practice. Founded by Dr. Joseph Mack, a physician-programmer, MedOne partnered with Memorial Health System (OH) in 2012 to incubate, launch, and refine our flagship product, BOLT™. We are nearing completion of our roadmap and are preparing for commercialization.
As a 28-member team, we are an agile and flat organization that is mission driven.

The Role
As an AI Engineer for MedOne Systems, you will be part of a small, high-impact team that will:
-
Augment and automate workflows. We will prioritize chokepoints that impact the pace of software development and overall product delivery.
-
Build, maintain, and evolve our ecosystem to support agentic coding so that our Product Owners can function as software “builders”.
-
Collaborate directly with our physician founder to integrate AI into our EHR, delivering advanced capabilities to end users that were previously impossible in a pre-AI era.

Core Responsibilities
-
Architect and deploy LLM-based applications using leading providers like OpenAI, Anthropic, Azure, or Grok, ensuring seamless integration into our platform.
-
Design, optimize, and maintain AI/ML pipelines with orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, etc, incorporating advanced techniques like prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), embeddings, and vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, FAISS).
-
Evaluate emerging AI models, tools, and frameworks and deploy those that meaningfully improve product capability or engineering velocity. Implement secure, HIPAA-compliant data handling for sensitive healthcare information.
-
Foster an agentic AI culture by iteratively enhancing our AI platform, automating repetitive tasks, and enabling autonomous agents that amplify human capabilities organization-wide.

Core Technical Skills
-
Proven experience building and integrating LLM applications (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Azure) to production systems.
-
Expertise in AI/ML frameworks and orchestration (LangChain, Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, etc.).
-
Strong grasp of prompt engineering, RAG pipelines, embeddings, and vector databases.
-
Solid software engineering foundations: API design, async patterns, clean architecture.

Nice to Have
-
.NET/C# experience (bonus: Semantic Kernel)
-
Familiarity with agentic frameworks or MCP (Model Context Protocol)
-
Model fine-tuning or evaluation expertise
-
Background in healthcare/regulatory data or multi-tenant SaaS

Soft Skills & Mindset
-
Excels in dynamic, ambiguous settings with a bias for action and rapid iteration.
-
Outstanding communicator: Able to demystify complex AI concepts to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders and drive adoption through clear, compelling narratives.
-
Mission-oriented: you want to be part of a great team doing meaningful work.

What Success Looks Like in the First 6 Months
-
Deploy production-grade LLM-powered workflows inside our EHR, BOLT.
-
Build internal AI tools that accelerate development and testing.
-
Reduce manual engineering effort through automation and agent-based tooling.
-
Establish the foundations of a scalable AI platform inside MedOne.

Compensation & Benefits
Competitive salary based on your qualifications. Equity participation opportunity after first year, comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision, 401(k) with generous company match and PTO.

How to Apply
To apply, submit your resume and a cover letter. In your cover letter, tell us about something exceptional you've built. Bonus points if you can share a link to an AI project.
